FALL RELATED ITEMS AND BATHROOM

Please send a fall related item with your child by the end of this week. It can be small squash, pumpkin, leaves etc. Please do NOT bring dead/live bugs, animals. If you can put the item in the Ziploc bag with your child name, number and if you want the item returned back to you, write PLEASE RETURN BACK on the Ziploc.

Bathroom policy---Please help me out as a lot of time is wasted.
Help me tell your children that when I bring them to the bathroom, they HAVE TO GO POTTY rather than just wash their hands and play with water, as a result of that, 15 minutes later, right after the whole class went to the bathroom, they have to go again. Once one go, a lot want to go after, if I don't let them go, accidents happened. ALOT of time is wasted. Pretty please with sugar on top, help me emphasize this at home. I will start thinking of  a consequence really soon if this continues to be a problem... I will be watching and making notes on who are the ones. Sorry to sound really strict but every minute is precious in Chinese class

THANK YOU!!!!

ACCEPTABLE USE FORM!

PARENTS! Pretty please with sugar on top!!! PLEASE DO IT ONLINE (ACCETABLE USE FORM) BY THIS WEEK!!!
Please!!!

Thanks!

THANK YOU and NEXT WEEK SEPT 30 to OCT 4th Agenda...

Thank you dear parents for supporting our great school in TECH TREK yesterday! It was fun to see your kiddos walking laps for our school.

Whats going on next week:

COLORS---- We are going to learn black, orange, pink and grey! Then we are done with colors! There will be CHINESE TEST for colors soon...stay tuned! All the tests (for vocabularies are always done orally, I don't expect them to know how to write the Chinese characters)

MATHS----We are still going to be doing the 10 frames, most kids already got the hang of the 10 frames, there are some that need that extra help, please revise with them, there will be a MATH TEST  sometime next week on this (1-10), they must count and place the correct amount in the ten frames) We are going to start 1-20 next week, using our 20 frames.

SCIENCE-- We will be learning about FALL season

Your children are learning so much each day, I have seen all this progress and growth that they are making in Chinese. Thanks for constantly helping them and being involve with school.

THANK YO U VOLUNTEERS for coming faithfully and help us in our classroom, sorry I can't say hi or talk to you right away when you come and help but know that I know and appreciate your time and efforts.

some items of BUSINESS....( not to sound like a broken record but please HELP me with the following) :

ACCEPTABLE USE FORM: There are still 4 students' parents that have NOT sign the acceptable use form. Please read my email and check. Please do so as soon as possible. Pretty please.

KIND WORDS: still teaching the children to use KIND words especially when they are talking to others. Being mean is not allowed and to be friends with everyone, to love everyone and to include everyone. Please help me re-emphasize this at home.

BATHROOM: We are having less and less potty accidents in our class..YAY! However, they are still some kids that want to go to the bathroom right after (like 10 minutes) I just brought the whole class to the bathroom. Once I allow one kid to go, a bunch of kids all want to go too, a lot of time is wasted. Those are the same kids that play with water in the bathroom and not use the potty. Please help me tell them to USE the potty when I bring them to the bathroom.

PENCIL---Most of the children know how to hold their pencil correctly--YAY! There are still some that need extra practice, please help me practice with them at home

FALL RELATED ITEMS: Starting on Monday, if you can so kindly send an item with your child that is fall related. Something that is not expensive and can stay in the class. For example, you can bring, small squash, leaves, acorns, pumpkins etc. Something that the children can touch, hold, observe. Please do NOT bring live/dead bugs, insects etc.  Put the item in a Ziploc bag with your child's name and number on it. If you want that item back, please write please 'return back' on the Ziploc bag.

JACKETS!----There are still some kids that do NOT bring jackets to school, they will have to stay indoors instead of going to recess because of the cold temperatures. They cannot call home anymore for their jackets as the office gets busy.

LOST AND FOUND BOX-- There are a lot of 'stray' items at the end of the day, like jackets, lunchbox, water bottles with no names, I always would ask the whole class whose does the items belong to, usually no one claims it, I will put it in the lost and found box ( by the custodian office).

BOX TOPS--- keep collecting those box tops, our school needs all the help we can get!

Stay Amazing! :)
Have a FUN and LONG weekend!

CHINESE TEST WAS ON TUESDAY--useful notes to LOOK out for....

We did have our Chinese TEST on TUESDAY! (for those that are absent, I will try and retest them by this week), ALOT of students did so well! :):):) Many of them remember yellow as HUANG se instead of Kwang se! Thank you for revising with them.

Notes I took from the Chinese test:

- Some children do NOT know how to write their numbers, for example the number 12, they write it as 21 (which is considered wrong, as it is a different number). [ for this test, just this time only, I will considered them correct! BUT in the future tests, it is considered incorrect!)

See below for more examples! ( the ones written in purple are the correct/actual numbers but the ones in red are the mistakes.
Please help me PRACTICE their numbers with them at home!

MATHS!--- We started doing our maths --YUP!- number representation since Monday but counting was done on the 2nd day of school, a lot of the children are so good in maths-YAY~!, there are some that needed extra help. When we do our  TEN FRAMES, I realized there are 3 groups that the children belong to:

group 1:  know wu= 5 which also means putting five dots into their ten frames

group 2: know wu=5 but they put the wrong amount in the ten frames

group 3do NOT know how much wu is, hence they end up guessing and putting the wrong amount in the frames.

I will continue to practice with them but Please revise with them their numbers, (see blog post-audio clip on counting 1-10) as we will be having a number test soon! More details to come!

Thank you again for being a great support!
If you have any questions, Please always feel free to talk to me or drop by!!

JACKETS!!!!----Please remember to send your child/children with jackets, it was raining today and some children were shivering without their jackets. Even if they stay indoors, it still gets cold, especially in the computer labs and the hallways etc...
NEW POLICY, if they forget their jackets, they can no longer call home, because the office is too busy. They have to stay indoors

Recordings of math (counting!)

Parents, please practicing counting with them (1 to 10) and then skip counting in 10-s, 10,20,30 till 100.

Thanks!

Some item of BUSINESS:
- It is going to be extra cold this week, please make sure your child/children wears/brings a jacket to school,  it they do NOT have a jacket, I am sorry, I cannot send them to recess, they have to wait in the office. I am more strict on this as I regard them as my own children and would not send them out in cold temperatures without a jacket. In the office, they can either call home to ask you to bring their jacket or just wait till recess is over. Please remember- JACKETS

- I will send an email with contact information regarding the mom that wants to swap days with someone.

- CHINESE TEST this week, review their colors, red, yellow and blue. yellow is pronounced with a H sound NOT a K sound. Also, on their test, I will ask them to SAY their Chinese name and WRITE their numbers in ENGLISH (that comes with their names)

What we learnt this week.......sept 16th-20th

Ni Hao dear parents,

For the math side, we learn how to count 1-10 forward and backward in Chinese, they have learn the hand signals that come with each number, we learned to count in 10-s till 100.We learned the colors Red, Yellow and Blue. There are a couple of students that are confuse with yellow and red, maybe because both of them start with the H sound. I did notice some students when they are saying yellow, they saying 'Kwang se', I don't know where the K sound is coming from, please refer back to my email on the audio clips of the color yellow, please help me correct that mistake, it is 'Huang se' (for yellow) make sure you hear the H sound. I am going to do a mini test next week (any day next week, so be prepared) on each student, please review with them:

- Their Chinese name
-Their number (they must be able to write their number) *their number comes with their name
-Colors, red, yellow, blue ( they must be able to say all these colors correctly)
[ if they say Kwang se for yellow, it will be considered wrong, not to be harsh of anything but the word kwang has another meaning]

I am so proud of your kids! Each and every one of your child is learning so much. It is amazing to see how their minds have grown! They have been very patient with me, I have been learning so much more for them. Thank you! Also, thank you for being so generous in helping us in the classroom, donating baby items for tek track, cutting out box tops and  donating classroom supplies! Parental support is so important to us! :) ps, we have been getting less and less cry-ers (students that cry), I think they have settled into the school routine and have slowly become more and more independent! :)

Some items of business, please make sure for those parents that have not signed the acceptable use agreement for the computer class, that you do so immediately. Weekly classroom volunteers, you will need to come to the office and sign a volunteer form. There is just some requirements on the form (for volunteering), it is nothing scary but it is just to make sure we are on the same page. Please make sure that on Tuesdays, your child wears RUNNING SHOES for PE, a lot of kids still wear crocs, boots, sandals, and slippers, this is dangerous for them in PE. Please make sure your child attends school everyday (except weekends and major holidays) unless they are sick, missing one day of school is missing a week worth of class! There is no makeup homework if you child misses school, they just have to catch up with the rest of the class! If your child is sick or you are running late, please call and notify the office. Do try your best to be on time to class!

Next Week- We are going to have a vision screening for each student on Friday, please make sure your children come to school. We are also going to learn 4 more colors- Green, Purple, Brown and White. Hopefully I will figure out on to attach audio clips onto this blog if not I will email you the audio clips. Also, we will keep practicing our Math, we will start using our ten frames and they need to able to use object to show the amount. For example the number 5= they must correcly place five circles into the 10 frames etc. We also started practicing our songs for Chinese New Year  program next year. (more information will be provided later)
leaving you with a funny quote from one of our students--- 'Lin Lao Shi, do you sleep in the school? I never seen you leave the school, that's cos when I come to school, you are already here, when I leave school, you are still here, you must live here, where is your bed? '
Gota love these cute kids!

Thank you for being awesome!~ ^_^ STAY TUNNED.....................
