Fridays...YAY!!!

Parents,

This has been a roller coaster week, I am glad for your continual support and for a chance to teach your kiddos!

BUSINESS...YUP RIGHT HERE.....

1. Volunteer forms, if you have not done so already, please HEAD TO THE OFFICE AND SIGN THE FORM WITH MRS GOLD! pleaseeeeee...

2. BEING SICK--If you child is sick with flu, cough etc please keep  them at home. IF not, once one child has it, it will spread like fire. I am afraid the whole class might have it. Make sure when they return to school--they are past the contagious stage. *there is no homework/make up work given by me. Just refer to my blog on what we are doing that week and practice with them at home, that way they will not miss out too much when they return to school
Also, remember to call the office and let them know that your child will be absent as they are sick!

3. WHOPPING COUGH---this seems to be common especially around the approaching cold weather. Please try your best to get your child vaccinated against this

4. PUTTING THINGS IN MOUTH, there are STILL a lot of children that love sucking on things, or putting things in their mouth! I am worried about germs and bacteria that gets into their bodies as they do so, I always sanitize the things and classroom but there are still germs and bacteria, please help me tell them at home not to do so.

5. COMING ON TIME TO CLASS---pretty please parents, please come on time or come a few minutes early to class, we have a few children who are always late to class.

6. Please always feel that you can communicate with me about anything school-related. I am always here to support you the best I can. Please be patient with me as I try and reach out to you.

AGENDA for NEXT WEEK OCT 14-18

1. 14th OCT,MONDAY, we have HEARING SCREENING! Try and make sure your child comes to school

2. 16th OCT, WED, we have PICTURE DAY! please make sure their hair is comb nicely, they wear nice clothes, and most importantly, they have an extra good night rest the night before.

3. 17 and 18 OCT, THURS AND FRIDAY----FALL BREAK!!! NO SCHOOL!! ENJOY A 4 DAY LONG WEEKEND!!! :)

4.. Chinese, we are going to be reviewing their shapes that they learn, circle, triangle, square and rectangle. *Some children get confused with SQUARE and TRIANGLE. So I taught them a trick, that the triangle has 3 sides, yi,er,san,(1,2,3) that's why it is called SAN Jiao xing (3 sided shape). also for rectangle, some kids get it confused with square, because they look the same (to them) so I taught them another trick, rectangle has longer sides so that's why it is called zhang fang xing, I will drag the word zhanggggggg (which means long) so that way the students can hear the difference.

- We are going to learn DIAMOND, TRAPEZIOD and HEXAGON ( there shapes will be tested in their end of the year assessment. More details to come on that will be next year)

5. MATHS--We are still going to be reviewing 1-20, I don't think I can move forward yet till I don't see any kinds of reversals. Please practice with them at home. You know your child best on whether they need extra help with numeral writing. I hope the salmon colored paper help you with providing you an idea of what a number line is. POSTIVE NOTE: I am seeing less and lesser reversals!! Mighty thanks to you all for practicing with them at home!! YAY!! *Cheers!

*note, a lot of children write their 20 as 10, or 12 or 02, all are considered wrong, please help me revise with them at home.

also for math, each student is given a 1-100 chart. Whenever, I say a number,( I will write it on the board too) they will have to find it, quite a bit of children whenever I say, 92, they will find 29 instead of 42 (because some children write their 9 like a 4. or when I say, 67, they will look for 76 or 97 (because some kids get confused with 9 and 6

I will send home a 100 chart for you, please practice with them at home. Say and write a number and have them look for it, you can use cherrios, M&Ms for them to place on the numbers you say.

*I taught them a trick, whenever I say a number, to look for the first number first. For example, 85, look for 8, so look at the 80 rows then look for 5 next. Some learn the trick, some are still learning.

6. SCIENCE: We will still learn about fall, (probably for this whole month) Thanks for bringing in fall-related items!! XieXie

7. CHINESE TEST ON COLORS WAS AWESOME!! ALOT OF CHILDREN exceeded my expectations! I am so proud of these kiddos!!! Thank you for revising with them at home!

8. MATH TEST ( on 1-10) was great too!! I see lesser reversals, yay!! Please keep practicing with them at home. Especially their 11-20)

*many hold their pencil correctly!! thank you thank you!!

INTERESTING NOTE: ON THEIR TESTS, for the Chinese colors, the PM class had more students that got perfect score (all correct) but for the Math test, the AM class has more students that did not write reversals.

Both classes exceeded my expectation! I am so proud of them for trying their best and for you all for practicing with them at home.

Cute conversation with one of my students:

student: Lin Lao Shi, How old you are you?
me: Guess
student: I don't know, just tell me!
me: 99 years old
student, Wait, you can be 99 years old, because next year, you will be 100 years old and DEAD!

That made me laugh! Thank you for sending your sweet and funny kids my way!

Have a SUPER WEEKEND!
